Dec 25th 2018 - Pope Francis calls for reconciliation in Christmas address:  Pope Francis has urged people to see differences as a source of richness instead of danger and has used his Christmas message to call for reconciliation in places torn apart by conflict.  "Our differences, then, are not a detriment or a danger;
they are a source of richness," he said. The 82-year-old also called for the resumption of dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians to "undertake a journey of peace that can put an end to a conflict that for over 70 years has lacerated the land chosen by the Lord to show his face of love".  He urged the international community to work for a political solution in Syria & Yemen.     

Nov. 29th 2018 - Seanad passes Occupied Territories Bill despite government opposition - Read More Here    Trocaire (Development Organisation of the Irish Catholic Church)  has welcomed the passing of the Occupied Territories Bill through the Irish Senate last night and has called on Assembly Delegates - Teachtaí Dála, (TDs) to support the legislation through the Dail (Irish Parliament). Under the Bill, Ireland will not allow the import or products produced in the illegal Israeli settlements in the Occuppied West Bank.  

Dec. 3rd 2018 - Irish Missionary Sr Mary Kileen, Receives Presidential Award: Dublin born Mercy nun, Sr Mary Kileen has been presented with a Presidential Distinguished Service Award by the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins.  The award recognised her outstanding development and humanitarian work amongst the poor and marginalised in Kenya since she arrived there in 1976. Read More...

Dec. 6th - "Abortion cannot be supported" - Irish Bishops statement:  The Irish Catholic bishops have issued a statement saying that abortion cannot be supported. The statement came at the conclusion of their Winter General Meeting which took place in Maynooth on Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 December.   Reflecting on the current Dáil debate on the abortion bill bishops said, “We are dismayed that, for the most part, the voices of those who voted against abortion in May’s referendum have been ignored.  Read More ..

Dec. 7th - The Monks of Tibhirine - Beatification Dec. 8th 2018.   The monks were the inspiration for the major motion picture "Of Gods and Men".  In the spring of l996 armed men broke into a Trappist monastery in war-torn Algeria and took seven monks hostage, pawns in a murky negotiation to free imprisoned terrorists. They were held for two months and found dead in late May 1996.  Read More...
